Personal Stories

When I was about 34 I had a psychic reading from a wonderful woman named Shikiah. I wasn’t new to readings; in fact, with my Mom being the New Age hippie she was, I’ve had more than I can count. Some were really insightful and helpful, others not so much, but this one left a mark. As we sat down to begin, Shikiah said, “Before we begin, I need to tell you that you are an Indigo, and you’re not alone.” I completely broke down crying. I had heard the term Indigo Child before, and really had no idea what it meant, but it was such a relief to know I wasn’t alone. This was my first indication there were “others”.

Shikiah went on to say that there are always a few Indigos here, as with Crystals and others, but like an eclipse, they come in greater and greater numbers until they are a noticeable group. I was born about twenty years before the big wave, making me feel even more alone on this journey. And in the 1970’s there simply weren’t resources to help parents cope with this kind of thing. My poor Mom… she did really great, but I’m sure it wasn’t easy for her either.

After the reading, I went home and immediately researched Indigo Children. Yep, I fit almost every defining characteristic: spiritual experiences from an early age, difficulty with authority, high I.Q., difficulty with the school system, and even lower than normal body temperature. Well, now I understand why my life has been so weird, and apparently I’m not alone. Now what? The adventure begins.

I want to share some of my personal stories so “the others” will know they aren’t alone either. Most books about Indigos are written as a broad descriptive, which is good information to have, but they lack the connection of personal experience. I hope to remedy that here… and in my book, Waking Up Indigo.
