Big Scary Things

I love to watch astrology updates from Pam Gregory, like this one on the eclipse tomorrow. Pam talks about the appropriate response to all the upheaval on the world stage – “Oh look, it’s another big, scary thing.” It seemed like Friday, October 13 was a good time to talk about scary things.

Someone I used to follow (Lisa Brown, maybe) mentioned a life-changing truth… If it isn’t happening in your direct reality, it isn’t part of your timeline. There are no truer words. Look at that again: If it isn’t happening in your direct reality (your personal life), it isn’t yours to change. Combine that with the teaching, “Where attention goes, energy flows.” What are you empowering with your attention?

I completely understand that news and social media make everything we look at seem like part of our personal reality, but it isn’t. It’s a really good time to leave social media, and only read headline news, like 1440. I also know there is a segment of the spiritual community that believes you are lacking compassion if you aren’t an emotional mess when others are suffering, which is completely backwards. The energy you send out into the world is what counts. Are you sending anxiety, or peace? You can’t feel one, and send the other.

True compassion is the person holding the warm towel to dry you after falling in the river, not the person jumping in (who can’t swim) to drown with you. The latter is just a display of codependency. Compassion is considerably more difficult. It’s tough to watch people make choices that will bring them pain, when all you can do is observe and be there with an open heart when they emerge from the chaos. Compassion requires you to be strong enough to let people have their experiences, without dissolving into an emotional mud puddle. Compassion takes practice and focus. The only way to maintain an open and compassionate heart is to emotionally remove yourself from other people’s lessons. Be an observer, and send the peace you feel.

When I was about six, I remember thinking how amazing it was that people had so much compassion for each other. I even thought, I hope I get to learn that while I’m here. I had no idea what I was in for. I have always seen down timelines, a tool I thought was available to all, which left me wondering, can’t they see where this is going? Apparently not. And it’s really hard to watch those you love run head-long into a brick wall. No one listens to my warnings. In fact, my warnings are either completely ignored, or I am accused of being unsupportive and judgemental. Life wants to be witnessed, not fixed.

I still share what I see, but I’m no longer trying to prevent pain. Our greatest personal expansions come from the pain of our “worst” decisions. So, I will share that we won’t be having another nuclear war, or a fake (or real) alien invasion, just in case this info reaches eyes that can see and ears that can hear. Both of those scenarios were on expired timelines. There will still be lots of scary things happening, so now is a good time to really understand the energy you’re putting into the mix. Be peace, and share it. Be joy, and share it. You are totally allowed to curl into a ball and cry, but don’t stay there. Focus your attention on what you want the world to become, not the scary things.

Great post and I totally agree. Just had that experience with one who has been part of my life for decades. Everyone gets to walk their path and experience it all as they choose. t gets easier to feel the love and compassion but stay in my own lane. To accept when folks walk away rather than face truth. To not change my truth to make it easier for them.
I like the statement of not happening in one’s reality, to let it be. It is time to watch our thoughts and stay in the love. Thank you for articulating it so well.

I’m so glad it resonated. I feel like the next few months will be filled with us stepping into observer mode, while people play out their chosen paths. Staying focused on love is always the goal!
