A-ha!

Epiphanies have been falling out of the sky, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. They normally just integrate, and seem perfectly normal and obvious within a few hours. But there has been one that I just couldn’t figure out. For the past week, I have been wrestling with God, or at least that concept. I decided to share my journey in the hope it will spark something for you.

I’m not a deity type person. I have always seen expressions of deity as metaphors for an inexplicable essence. I know some people take their deity quite seriously, and quite literally. I advise those folks to stop reading at this point. This post is really about my own understanding of gender roles and how to balance masculine and feminine energy within. In my brain it’s all energy and metaphor, with little regard for social religious graces. I’m quite sure I will offend most Yahweh followers.

This journey started with a rant about how backwards it is to think of God as a man. If God created everything, then made humans in Its image, why are only females able to create new life? For thousands of years before the arrival of Yahweh, worship of the divine was through the mother Goddess. That one isn’t tough. What is the saying? “If men had three sides, God would be a triangle.” Men were in charge, so now God is a man.

Then I got a piece about men listening to women, which doesn’t normally happen. If I want to be heard I always talk to another woman. Again, not a surprise when the popular religious culture relegates women to childbearing and home duties. Women are nothing more than someone to make the man of the house more comfortable.

Then I got this weird thing about dogs. Many people expect their dog to be an alpha and protect them, but not many dogs are true alpha. If you take a beta (follower) and ask it to behave like an alpha (leader), you will have one anxious and potentially violent animal. There will be lots of barking and biting as the poor creature tries to fill a role it isn’t designed to do.

Is this what’s wrong with men? Men have been in decline for decades with lower test scores and lower drive to succeed at anything. I call the current situation “the victomized white male” because there is so much whining and so little introspection. Is it chemical? Is it emotional? Could it be that the changing gender roles took away the safety of someone who was never designed to be an alpha? Now it’s all coming together, at least in my little brain.

What if the “God is a man” story was part of the upside-down world we have been living in for thousands of years? What if men were never intended to lead? Asking them to do a job they aren’t built for is cruel and would result in the odd behavior we see so much of today. Lots of barking and biting would look like abuse and war. We didn’t do anyone any favors with this one.

After all that (my brain has been busy), let’s look at what this means internally, because energy is fractal. We have all been taught that the masculine energy (mind) is superior, and it is unnecessary to listen to the feminine energy (body). In fact, abusing your body is considered normal if the mind wants to play (just look at alcohol). This is absolutely backward!!! The quality and length of your physical life is dependent on a healthy body. Your personal gender is irrelevant, as we all carry both mental and physical energy. Don’t put the barking dog in charge of your physical protection.

Side-note: When I read the scripture about men not lying with a man as he would with a woman, I interpret it energetically. I read “Humans should not align with the mind as with the body.” Just something to ponder.

Humans also have a dispassionate observer mind; this is what we call awareness. Use your inner observer to notice when your are ignoring your body to follow your mind’s cravings. The biggest hurtle for humanity at this point is learning to listen. Learning to listen begins with listening to your body. Just like “you can only love another as much as you love yourself”, you can only listen to another as much as you listen to yourself.

Thank you so much for your insight, Natha! It’s so bizarre. The different forms of exploitive patriarchy throughout history have managed to almost snuff out life on Earth. It’s a form of insanity.

I don’t think most people understand how destructive the patriarchy has been on men. Women know. Minorities know. The planet knows. But most men don’t even understand how they have been set up to fail.

This post is so amazing, there’s a lot to ponder and think as lots of things we’ve been taught true are seemingly a lie! I think the concept of God being only male is delusional! God is both masculine and feminine intertwined. It’s such overwhelming to know such things and the world around don’t have any clue. You are absolutely right about the roles some men are put that don’t befit them. It’s all about the masculinity and femininity in both men and women that come to play not the physical body! There’s a lot to talk about let me end here. Thanks for sharing I’m glad I found your blog!

So much to think about! I am still pondering how seeing God as a man has changed our society over the past 5000 years. Understanding humans has always been pretty difficult for me, but this really explains a lot. I’m glad it stirred something in you also!

The patriarchy abuses everyone equally. It is not a matter of changing gender roles or superiority, but a matter of understanding that true equality is the future. Equal doesn’t mean “same”—it means “equal but different.” It means being able to appreciate difference without feeling threatened. Vive la difference!

I agree that equality is the future, without doubt. Thinking about how we got to this present raises awareness, and awareness is the key to everything. Most women understand the damage the patriarchy has done to women, but most men don’t yet see how damaging it has been to men. I am hoping to spark new ideas to ponder… Elon Musk isn’t the only one with a mission 😉
